Application and advantages of solid concrete square piles in soft soil foundations
1. Characteristics and challenges of soft soil foundation Soft soil foundation is mainly composed of fine-grained soil (such as clay, silt soil). These soils have the characteristics of low strength, high compressibility, and poor water permeability. Under the action of load, soft soil is prone to large settlement and lateral displacement, leading to instability or damage to the superstructure. Therefore, when constructing on soft soil foundation, effective foundation reinforcement measures must be taken to improve the bearing capacity and stability of the foundation.
2. Characteristics of solid concrete square piles As a common foundation treatment method, solid concrete square piles have been widely used in soft soil foundation reinforcement due to their unique advantages. Compared with other pile types, solid concrete square piles have the following significant features:
Larger cross-sectional area: The cross-sectional shape of the square pile gives it a larger contact area, which can more effectively disperse the foundation pressure and reduce the stress concentration per unit area, thus improving the overall bearing capacity of the foundation. Higher strength: Made of high-strength concrete, the square pile itself has high compressive, bending and shear strength, and can withstand larger loads without being easily damaged. Good stability: The cross-sectional shape of the square pile makes it less prone to lateral deformation, and it can maintain good verticality and stability even in soft soil foundations. Convenient construction: Solid concrete square piles can be constructed using prefabricated or on-site pouring methods, which are highly flexible and adaptable to different construction environments and conditions. 3. Application strategies of solid concrete square piles in soft soil foundations Reasonable design of pile diameter and length: According to the specific conditions of the soft soil foundation and the load requirements of the superstructure, the cross-sectional size and length of the square pile should be reasonably determined to ensure that the pile body can not only effectively disperse the foundation pressure, but also penetrate deep into the stable layer to form a reliable support system. Optimize construction methods: Use construction methods such as static pile pressing, hammer pile sinking or vibration pile sinking, and select the most appropriate construction technology according to the actual conditions on site to reduce interference to the surrounding environment and ensure the verticality of the pile body and construction quality. Measures to strengthen the pile body: Set up steel cages inside or around the pile body to increase the shear resistance and overall stability of the pile body; for particularly weak soil layers, grouting reinforcement and other methods can be used to improve the overall strength of the foundation. Monitoring and evaluation: During the construction process and after completion, continuous monitoring of foundation settlement and displacement is carried out to detect and deal with abnormal situations in a timely manner to ensure project safety.
